IT was election time 25 years ago in Malvern, with 73 candidates contesting 29 seats on Malvern Hills District Council. The other 18 were filled unopposed.
All seven wards in Malvern were being fought, with 33 hopefuls batting over the 16 seats.
In Langland there were eight candidates fighting for the three seats; in Trinity, seven.
Among the four contestants in the Chase ward were two men who in non-political life were colleagues as teachers at the Chase High School.
Maths teacher Ralph Storer was standing in the independent interest, and biology teacher Malcolm Russell as a Labour candidate.
