FROMES Hill extended their lead over Morgan to six points in the battle for second place in the Sterling Classic Malvern Football League Division One after winning the top clash of the day last Sunday.

Fromes Hill returned to action after a four week absence to record an impressive 4-0 victory over their opponents Morgan who have now lost their second game in successive weeks.

Fromes' top scorer Shaun Taylor was in fine form to score twice in the opening 45 minutes to give Fromes Hill a two goal advantage going in at the interval.

In the second period it was James Howard's turn to get on the scoresheet as he scored a brace to give Fromes Hill a confidence boosting win as they go into their Sunday Senior Cup Semi-Final clash with Bell Inn 98 this Sunday for a place in the final against Morgan.

Also hot on the heels of Fromes Hill and Morgan for second place is Club AC 30 who move above Morgan and into third place after what can be described as a fortuitous 2-1 victory over Morgan Aero 8 at Perdiswell.

Morgan Aero 8 had virtually all the possession in the opening half, however they just couldn't convert their chances into goals and they were hit with a quick breakaway by Club AC 30 five minutes before the interval when Aaron Parrs' shot could only be parried by keeper Steve Davies into the path of striker Tony Reece who headed into an empty net to give them a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw the home side gain more possession, however Morgan Aero 8 grew in confidence in defence and were rewarded after 70 minutes when Darren Layton pounced on a loose ball in the six yard area to score a deserved equaliser. The visitors hopes were dashed however minutes later when a lob by Paul Young for Club AC 30 just inside the visitors half saw the ball drop agonisingly over the despairing Davies and into the right hand corner of the net to record a 2-1 lead. This lead was held for the remaining 20 minutes of the game to give Club AC 30 the three points.

Portobello United returned to winning ways after a recent slump in form and the opening minutes of this game started shakily for United as they entertained Talbot Head at Lower Howsell Road. However mid way into the half and it took a 30 yard effort from John Wilson to give United the lead. Justin Davies fouled in the area, picked himself up to score from 12 yards giving Portobello United a 2 goal lead at half-time.

The second period saw the introduction of Alan Barnes and Owen Meekes to improve their attacking options and Talbot Head were unlucky not to reduce the deficit after seeing several chances unconverted.

Justin Davies scored his second of the game after taking the ball from the bye-line and weaving his way past two defenders to slot in number three for United and he was denied his hat-trick after missing some further chances throughout the game. Final score 3-0.
