MALVERN ten-pin bowler Dave Johnson has been selected for the County team following trials at Rubery and Worcester.
Dave, aged 29, who recently moved to Redland Road, Malvern, works at Strikes bowling centre in Spring Lane North as a lane technician and becomes the first player from the club to gain County honours.
Playing in several Strikes' teams, Dave also plays in the Wednesday Pairs League at Wickets, Worcester and also plays for their side in the Midland Scratch League.
The County team is made up of the top seven players following the two venue trials and Dave finished in ninth place, out of 25, after the first round but moved up to fourth after the Worcester competition.
Dave, who has been bowling for six years, said: "I was really dejected after the Rubery trials and nearly pulled out of the Worcester event, but there I bowled really well and managed to pull it round.
"It's been my ambition to play for the County and all the practice has paid off."
Dave now plays in a National weekend event in August or September against all the other counties with the top five going through to National finals.
