ALL bodes well for the future of local table tennis after another successful season of coaching in the Lambert & Wade Malvern Table Tennis League.
Hopes are currently running high that four new teams containing juniors and cadets from the league organised coaching sessions will be entering the lower divisions of the league for the 2001/2 season.
This emanates from the tiered coaching sessions that have been taking place on Sunday evenings at Dyson Perrins High School throughout the winter, this has also resulted in a number of successes for individuals and teams.
This year for the first time Malvern entered two Junior/Cadet teams into the National Junior League, consisting of ten regional teams, resulting in Malvern A finishing a creditable second to Hereford A. Those players that represented the A team were Eak Sugkraoek, David Smith, James Clarke, Matt Lang and Colin Sage.
The Junior and Cadet teams are currently in training for the County Team Championships that are due to take place in Kidderminster during May.
The most notable individual achievement has been the selection of Joe Higgs, aged 14, for the regional training squad at the Lilleshall Centre for Excellence. Reserve status has also been achieved by Matt Lang, Geoffrey Burford and Ben Salisbury.
