A DISABLED pensioner whose handbag was snatched from her invalid carriage as she returned a trolley to a supermarket was today recovering from her ordeal.
The 60-year-old was said to be devastated after the sneak thief struck outside Aldi in Kidderminster, on Thursday.
The teenage crook watched the woman as she wheeled her trolley back to the store, sneaked under the carriage's waterproof cover and grabbed the bag at around 3.30pm.
She shouted for help and the thief ran off, dropping the handbag and scattering its contents on to the car park.
Police are now appealing for witnesses who saw the white youth, thought to be around 18 years old, between 5ft 9in and 5ft 10in tall and with short, gelled-back black hair, to come forward.
He was wearing a black anorak or bomber jacket with white along the sleeves and on the hem, dark jeans and trainers.
"No threats were made towards the victim but she was understandably upset and distressed," said PC Adrian Hewitt, of Kidderminster police.
"Members of the public are reminded not to leave items such as handbags unattended, even for a short while."
Information can be passed to Kidderminster police on 01562 820888 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
