ADRIAN Skeggs has finally conceded that Worcester's promotion dream is over for another season.
The Sixways coach telephoned Leeds Tykes boss Phil Davies after their 55-16 win over London Welsh to congratulate him on their championship win.
The Yorkshire side will not officially clinch promotion until the weekend when they travel to Henley but, with a five point lead over Skeggs' men and with a vastly superior goal difference, the Australian had to admit the title race was now over.
Worcester's director of coaching, speaking after his team beat Moseley 43-17 in their final home game of the season, paid tribute to the champions-elect.
He said: "They have developed their game plan over a number of years and to their credit they have been the most consistent team this season.
"I take my hat off to Phil Davies. He is a great mate and I really respect what he has done there in the time he has had.
"What I would say to our supporters is that this is just the beginning for me and the club. I have had my first year and it has turned out to be a very successful one.
"I am feeling really positive about where we are going as a club. We have a great structure in place and if we can add a few good players to the squad I think we can build on this season."
Skeggs was in buoyant mood after seeing Worcester demolish Midland rivals Moseley with a solid performance.
Chris Hall, Scott Barrow, Nick Baxter, Tom Warren, Andy Collins and Earl Va'a ran in tries for the Gold'n'Blues as they avenged a 22-15 defeat which had severely damaged their title aspirations back in December.
"We definitely had a lot more spirit and brains than we had when we lost to them earlier in the season. I think there were some very positive signs for the future on display."
Barrow ran the show with some stunning breaks while debutant Warren made an immediate impact for Worcester. The 20-year-old, who signed from Moseley in February, scored a try with his first touch. His display, along with Barrow's and Sateki Tuipulotu's performance, put Skeggs in confident mood for next season.
"Scott was quite outstanding and his running and passing were particularly impressive. What we need though is guys to run off him and that's why I put Warren on. He was a massive plus for me and I also thought Sateki Tuipulotu was once again a key figure for us.
"It was a positive performance and if you look through the side, there were a number of very young players in key positions which obviously augurs well for the future."
