GEORGE Cowley (You Say, April 12) is to be commended for giving one third of his unearned income to charity.

My own such donations are by companion, minuscule.

I do, however, contribute a considerable proportion of my hard-earned income to the local rates office, and the Inland Revenue.

The latter, of course, generates the funds from which George obtains his income.

It could therefore be argued, that when being charitable, George is merely giving away taxpayers' money.

F K BUSH,

Christine Ave, Worcester.
