SIDNEY Cullis suggests that a reincarnated Oliver Cromwell would strike "right in the House of Commons" (You Say, Friday, April 13).
In the light of history, this appears to be nonsense.
Cromwell created the New Model Army in order to fight the Parliamentary cause and eventually defeated the Royalists, led by Charles I, who believed in the divine right of kings.
However, it is true that, after the abolition of the monarchy in 1649, the Lord Protector became a tyrannous puritanical bigot.
An attempt by Charles II to retake the throne failed at Worcester in 1651. Nevertheless, he regained the throne in 1660.
Is Mr Cullis advocating a takeover of Parliament by the military?
If that even happens then Britain will truly have become a Third World country.
The "sleeping beauties" are almost all in the House of Lords, which should be abolished. There should be a second chamber elected on a regional basis.
