GLOUCESTER City player-boss Tommy Callinan headed a 67th minute winner to condemn Bromsgrove Rovers to a 1-0 defeat in the Dr Martens League Western Division.
Callinan was left unmarked at the near post to head home from Gary Marshall's corner in a game neither side deserved to win.
Bromsgrove should have equalised six minutes later when Tim Nicholls headed a Luke Yates cross past the post.
Agonisingly
Rovers' Costas Xiourouppa squandered a similar chance on 59 minutes from Jamie Ball's cross, but he headed agonisingly wide when it was easier to score.
Gloucester's best chance of the first half fell to Jimmy Cox after Steve Jenkins set him up, but Cox slipped at the vital moment and fluffed the chance.
Xiourouppa hit the crossbar with a cross-cum-shot after 27 minutes but the ball fell to safety.
Rovers piled on the pressure in the last quarter of the match but couldn't penetrate a stubborn City defence.
Rovers: Morris 7, Watson 7, Hughes 8, Townsend 7, Frost 7, Yates 8, Bridgewater 7, Ball 7, Xiourouppa 7, Banner 6 (sub McFarlane 55), Nicholls 8.
Star man: Luke Yates.
Attendance: 441.
