A SERVICE designed to settle disputes between businesses and disabled customers has been launched by the Disability Rights Commission.
Chairman Bert Massie said the introduction of the Disability Conciliation Service coincided with the first advertising campaign to raise awareness of the national helpline.
"We know from the thousands of calls to our helpline that disabled people get a raw deal as customers on a daily basis," he said.
"The service will fill a gap for disabled people who are reluctant to take their discrimination cases to the courts."
Mr Massie said businesses should bear in mind disabled people had around £40bn a year to spend.
"The advertising campaign aims to raise awareness of their rights and where to get help if they are discriminated against," he said.
"It also reminds the public that discrimination of any kind is unacceptable."
Leaflets are available in a variety of languages and formats by calling 08457 622 633 textphone 08457 622 644 or e-mail enquiry@drc-gb.org
