A DAY of specially organised events took place in Alvechurch on Monday to celebrate St George's Day in style.
The English flag was flying from the village's church tower from 7am, accompanied by bell ringing, and children at Alvechurch Middle School wore badges bearing the flag to wear on their lapels.
In the afternoon, members of the village's three WIs served afternoon teas at the village hall and a festival service took place at St Laurence's Church in the evening.
The day ended with a social event at the village hall, where Alvechurch Morris Men performed their version of St George and the Dragon and English fish and chips and locally produced Weatheroak ales were served.
The evening finished with the singing of traditional English songs and a 'Last Night of the Proms' experience.
Meanwhile, youngsters from Sandhills Day Nursery in the village celebrated by dressing up and playing in a huge cardboard castle they had built during the previous fortnight.
