A TEENAGER became involved in a "Fagin" style burglary near Droitwich Spa to help pay off a debt.

Working with an accomplice, Peter Loveridge used a pair of rubber gloves and bolt cutters to break into a stable block in Doverdale Lane, Hampton Lovett.

More than £10,000 worth of equipment was stolen.

Droitwich magistrates heard the offence took place at Keybridge Farm on Sunday March 25.

At about 10.45pm, police on patrol spotted a Rover car in Doverdale Lane which had a number of items on the back seat.

Prosecuting lawyer Doreece Gunter said officers followed the car and put their blue light on.

She added a search of the car revealed a pair of rubber gloves, a wooden bat and horse riding equipment.

Nineteen-year-old Loveridge, of Smite Caravan Site, Smite, admitted entering the farm and stealing £10,500 worth of equestrian equipment.

Defending lawyer David Howarth told the court last Wednesday that Loveridge had owed his co-defendant £2,500 and had been working without pay for 12 months.

He said: "He borrowed the money to get married and was paying off the debt in a Fagin type of arrangement.

"At the time of the offence he still owed money to the co-defendant."

Loveridge was committed to Worcester Crown Court for sentencing on Friday May 4. He was remanded in custody and fined £250 for using a car without insurance.
