SPA played down the slope in the first half and were immediately awarded a penalty which they ran through forwards Ashley Perry and Nick Godfrey.

This saw them make ground, to be awarded another penalty. This time Matthew Blackmore converted to give Droitwich a 3-0 lead. Redditch came back to get a penalty of their own, but could not convert. They were awarded another shortly afterwards which they were successful with.

The Droitwich backs were now capitalising on good ball gained by their forwards. It was from one such breakdown that fly-half Simon Mountjoy moved the ball to the blind side to feed Nick King. He held onto it long enough to draw the defence and set free winger Sascha Hobbs, who raced over in the corner.

Blackmore added another penalty just before half time be make the score 11-3.

Droitwich knew they still had a battle on their hands as they were now playing up the slope, although they opened brightly with Faulkener making a good burst down the wing in search of his 30th try of the campaign.

Good running by Blackmore saw Neil Evans come into the line at pace. He sold a lovely dummy to score. Blackmore added the tricky conversion.

Droitwich seemed to have the game under control, but Redditch had other ideas and kept pressing.

When Droitwich over elaborated in midfield, the ball went to ground for the home full-back to pick up and race 60 metres to score.

With the seconds ticking away Redditch launched another attack, and a speculative cross-kick bounced kindly into the wing's hands to score, and the conversion made it 17-18.

There was no more time for Redditch and Droitwich gained a slender victory.
