Bromsgrove Rovers (0) 0
Gloucester City (0) 1
Dr Martens League Western Division
GLOUCESTER City player-boss Tommy Callinan headed a 67th minute winner to hand Rovers another headache in their survival battle on Saturday.
Callinan was left unmarked at the near post to head home from Gary Marshall's corner in a game neither side deserved to win.
Bromsgrove were simply punished for their inability to convert two gilt-edged chances.
The home side should have equalised six minutes after City's goal when Tim Nicholls -- who played his best game for Rovers since joining the club -- headed a Luke Yates cross past the post when it was far easier to hit the target
Rovers' Costas Xiourouppa squandered a similar chance on 59 minutes from Jamie Ball's cross, and he headed agonisingly wide, again with the goal at his mercy.
Xiourouppa hit the crossbar in the first half with a cross-cum-shot on the left flank, but to City's relief the ball fell to safety. Then Nicholls blasted a shot that just went over Ally Hines' crossbar.
Good chances
Gloucester had two good chances in the space of two minutes. The first fell to Jimmy Cox on 32 minutes after Steve Jenkins set him up, but Cox hit his shot straight at Elliott Morris in the Bromsgrove goal. Cox then sent Lee Smith clear but he slipped at the vital moment, much to the delight of the home crowd.
Although the play switched from end-to-end, there was little in the way of chances for either side. Both teams were determined to keep the ball in the air when it was far easier to keep it on the ground.
Rovers piled on the pressure in the last quarter of the match but couldn't penetrate a stubborn City defence.
Rovers: Morris, Watson, Hughes, Townsend, Frost, Yates, Bridgewater, Ball, Xiourouppa, Banner (sub McFarlane 55), Nicholls.
Rovers man of the match: Luke Yates.
Attendance: 441. Report by CHRIS VAUGHAN.
