A REDDITCH-based superbikes team are heading for the top in their first full season of competition.

Former trials biker Dave Worthington has launched Team Legs Eleven and is reaping the rewards of one of the highest-profile sponsorship deals on the circuit.

The Webheath wonder entered Team Magnum into the Superstocks championship halfway through last season enjoying mixed results.

But Worthington, whose Legs Eleven team is also sponsored by Renault Trucks Midlands and Action Motorcycles, is gunning for a top 15 finish after signing up teenage prodigy Tristan Palmer.

Officials relaxed the over 23 age limit for the championship to allow the gifted Coleshill 18-year-old to compete with the best in the country on a Yamaha 1000 R1.

And after coming in last in the opening round at Donington, Palmer finished ninth in the second round at Silverstone after switching tyres.

"This is our first full season and the top 14 riders are professionals with big budgets and big support teams," said Team Legs Eleven chief Worthington.

"But Tristan is one of the most highly-rated prospects in the country so it is a realistic aim."

Worthington wants to step up into superbikes but says he is at least two years from his dream.

But the 39-year-old is enjoying more than his fair share of the limelight after approaching the Birmingham lap-dancing club for sponsorship because of a bet with a friend.

"It was just a bet to start with but they have been great," said Worthington.

"We can't get down the pit lane on race day because everyone wants pictures of the girls."

Team Legs Eleven are back in action in the third round at Snetterton from Saturday, May 5-Monday 7.

And Worthington wants to raise £10,000 to field another rider.
