April 28, 1951
THE centenary of the opening of Studley Church of England School on April 23, 1851, was marked by a special service held on Monday conducted by the Bishop of Coventry, Dr Neville Gorton.
Other clergy present included Canon PG Kemp, vicar of Studley, the Rev AE Warren, rural dean of Alcester and rector of Spernall, the Rev WH Harrison, vicar of Coughton, and the Rev JA Thomson, rector of Arrow.
About 50 parents along with school children were present and the form of the service was that used at the opening of the first classroom 100 years ago.
When the school was opened it was the only school in Studley and it is believed that there were only 100 infant pupils.
The demands upon it have grown steadily in recent years and two temporary classrooms, which have just been added, were dedicated by the bishop during the service.
