AFTER the visitors' lunch at Kings Court Hotel on April 11, president Enid Phillips introduced speaker Nigel Perrin with his talk entitled If music be the food of love, sing on.
Mr Perrin, from Somerset, teaches music at Wells Cathedral School.
From an early age he was encouraged to sing and play piano. He won a Chorister Scholarship to Ely and was there for 10 years, which set his course as a singer musician. He then moved on to a Choral Scholarship for Kings College Cambridge.
Nigel sings in two voices - alto and baritone. To illustrate this point, he sang Transport of Delight, an old song of Flanders and Swann, and was accompanied on piano by Mary Howie.
He was a member of the King Singers from 1969-1980, visiting several countries and making television appearances with such celebrities as Vera Lynn and Val Doonican.
He now conducts and trains four or five choirs regularly.
The next meeting on Wednesday, May 9, will include a talk by Mrs Caroline Newey on A Journey to the Galapagos Islands.
