SUMMER holiday blues will be a distant thought for Rubery youngsters after a village leisure centre was served a massive lottery grant.
The £4,234 from the National Lottery Awards for All will allow Rubery Leisure Centre to run a youth tennis coaching programme over the summer months led by coach Heidi Palmer.
This starts in early May, is aimed at pre-school age through to teenagers and thanks to the cash extra equipment and publicity to support it has been secured.
The windfall will also pay to upgrade floodlights at the Holywell Lane venue, resurface sports courts and fund a sport and fun day planned for Sunday, July 8.
Committee members hope the changes will attract more tennis fans to the site.
Centre chairman Barry Hartnell said: "We are thrilled to get this award and have worked hard to develop this project.
"For a group like ours this is a large sum of money and it will enable us to enhance the sporting opportunities for the benefit of local people."
Bromsgrove District Council and Bournville Village Trust have also supported the projects.
Further details of the tennis coaching programme are available from Heidi on 07974 185475 or from the leisure centre on 0121 453 7716.
