THE bus service in Redditch could end up being suspended following the results of a passenger survey.

'Horrifying' stories of assaults have been detailed as part of a survey for the county council, which subsidises the buses.

A woman, who doesn't want to be named, has been carrying out the survey for the last few weeks.

In a statement to the Redditch Advertiser, she said drivers had told her horrifying stories of assaults on the buses.

She stated the worst had been when flammable liquid was poured on the road and set alight as the bus approached.

Tree stumps had been left in the path of buses and she even had food thrown at her while performing passenger interviews.

Last week, the Redditch Advertiser reported on a police operation to stamp out assaults on bus drivers, with uniformed and undercover officers travelling on buses to curb the problems.

The county council's policy and development officer, Geoff Kerr, said the surveys were taking place as part of a complete transport review for the autumn.

Mr Kerr added: "We will look into it and talk to the police. As a last resort we will take the buses off, although we're reluctant to take that action.

"It has happened in other areas where, for a short time, buses have been suspended. We don't want to take that action but we'll be happy to do anything to help the bus company and police."
