SUPERMARKET giant Tesco is opening an internet caf in one of its Worcester stores.

Shoppers will be able to surf the net at St Peter's after buying their weekly groceries.

The cybercafe will be one of the first in the country and store bosses aim to hit the superhighway in June.

Spokesman Russell Craig said the St Peter's caf would be the fourth of 10 in UK.

The 10-strong computer caf will be run in conjunction with local colleges with experts on hand to dish out advice, particularly for people not familiar with the internet.

"They will be available to instruct people or people who are not sure and fancy a go," said Mr Craig.

"We have a cybercafe in Kensington which has been running for 18 months and has been very popular.

"The idea is for people to shop and surf and the reason we think it is going to be a success is that they will be accessible.

"People who haven't used cybercafes might be uncomfortable about going into one but because it's Tesco, we believe they will be more likely to have a go."

Meanwhile a Tesco representative has met with St Peter's parish member, Roger Knight, to discuss issues relating to the St Peter's Drive store.

Abandoned

Key concerns have related to a lack of facilities in the area for teenagers, which leads to loitering, the general appearance of the area, and abandoned trolleys.

Mr Knight said the meeting was positive and he believed they could work together in the future.

"We're not moving fast but we are moving," he told fellow parish council members.
