A PRESTIGIOUS conference of church leaders, held for the first time in Worcester, has discussed the exercise of leadership in modern society.
The Deans and Provosts Conference this week attracted more than 30 representatives from across Britain.
During their visit, the group had a packed programme, meeting education, police and health chiefs to discuss issues of leadership.
"As far as I can see, this conference had never happened in Worcester before," said the Very Rev Peter Marsahll, Dean of Worcester.
"It was good to be involved with it and I was very glad to have it in Worcester this year.
"We met officials of West Mercia Police and the Health Service, and Dorma Unwin, the principal of University College Worcester, to discuss what issues they face in an increasingly knowledgeable world.
"There were some common issues between them which we hope to use to help society, which is now a lot bigger and much more complex."
As part of conference, the group visited the city's Swan Theatre to see the second half of The Worcester Century Plays, which depict life in Worcester from 1969 through to the Millennium.
The Dean added the visit to the theatre was not just for entertainment.
"The theatre was a good way of exploring changing attitudes. So it was educational and enjoyable," he said.
Andy Sheard, marketing manager at the Swan, said he was pleased the play was involved in such an important conference, adding that it demonstrated the credibility of the production.
"We're delighted the group came to see the play and trust they had a very enjoyable evening," he said.
"It demonstrates that the plays are seen as a good reflection of the changes in Worcester and society generally which have taken place changed during the last century."
