PLANS for a multi-million pound scheme to regenerate Stourport have been met with a "fantastic and amazing" response.

Jake Berriman, Wyre Forest District Council planning and environment chief, said hundreds of eager folk had flocked to a public exhibition giving details about the Severn Road and Lichfield Basin redevelopment scheme.

The proposals, which set out potential development sites for new housing, business and employment opportunities, have been labelled as pivotal in shaping Stourport's future, and the public did not waste their opportunity to have their say.

More than 200 attended Tuesday's display at Stourport Civic Centre.

Mr Berriman, who praised the coverage of the plans in the Shuttle/Times & News, said: "It was fantastic because our planning officers were besieged with people wanting to know how these developments will help them and their town.

"The district council is delighted the day was such a success and is grateful to all the town, district and county councillors who attended.

"There were still people keen to find out more once it was time to close the exhibition, and it's a pity we could not run it for more than a day, but rest assured, the public's comments will be taken firmly on board."

The documents, which also include plans to build a substantial food store and increase development of Stourport's waterways as part of the district council's Local Plan, are available for inspection at the centre.

They can also be seen at Stourport Library.

However, Mr Berriman encouraged the public to consider visiting the council's planning department at Kidderminster's Land Oak House in Chester Road North.

He said officers there would be able to discuss matters further.

People can write to Mr Berriman before the May 18 consultation closing date.

Amendments after a consideration of responses will be made in June before the proposals reach full council for adoption in July.
