IT was with considerable dismay that I read of the impending resignation of the mayor, Mrs Maggie Stephenson.
Those of us who were privileged to be present at the civic service on March 4 heard her outline her vision of a prosperous, caring and compassionate town which would serve all citizens equally, regardless of status or nationality. The spontaneous applause which greeted her address was both unsolicited and, in my experience, unique. It would be a great pity if this vision were not to be realised.
As mayor, Mrs Stephenson has devoted her time and energies to the town of Evesham. In this, she has been ably supported and assisted by the mayoress Mrs Jackie Hale. Both ladies have carried out their tasks with dedication and dignity: they deserve a heartfelt vote of thanks.
MRS R LYNCH, Mill St, Evesham.
