Evesham 4, Rocester 1
A FAR more committed Evesham performance brought a welcome win after three straight defeats.
Four second half goals ensured Phil Mullen's side stretched their unbeaten home record to a dozen matches on another wet Tuesday when a goalless opening half did nothing to liven up the lowest crowd of the season at Common Road.
Andy Hodgetts had three pots at goal in the first half and he was again chancing his luck soon after the restart.
However, it was full back Andy Smith who instigated the victory with a 51st minute centre that enabled Stuart Payne to knock in the opener before Smith's swerving drive from 20 yards 19 minutes from time doubled the lead.
Payne struck a post three minutes later before slack marking allowed Sandy Holmes to halve the arrears after 81 minutes.
Just when it looked like another nervy climax, keeper John Edensor spilled a Paul Davies shot and Payne gratefully knocked in the loose ball for his 12th goal since arriving at the club in late January.
Another late arrival, Hodgetts, fired in his tenth goal of the season after Payne and Paul Davies had worked an opening in stoppage time to cap a much improved show against a side that had won ten times on their Western Division travels this term.
