LEADING hockey writer and former international player Cathy Harris, of the Times newspaper and Hockey Sport magazine, was the chief guest of honour at Worcester Norton Hockey Club's Ladies Section annual awards evening.

Introducing the celebrations, the head coach Tim Barlow outlined the season's achievements of the club which had been the most outstanding in its history.

The first team had won the Midlands Division A championship, gaining its fifth successive promotion and now was poised to enter the Midland League Premiership with a loss of only three league games in that period.

They had also become Worcestershire Club champ-ions.

The third team had come top of Worcestershire League Division Two and was thereby promoted to Division One.

The Under 19 team had emulated their elders by becoming County Champions and subsequently taking second spot in the Midland's championship.

The Under 15 team had reached the semi-final stage of the EHA Cup for clubs and schools and both the Under 13 and Under 11 teams had advanced to the finals of their county Championship age groups.

In reply, Cathy Harris congratulated the club on their achievements and doubted if there was any other with an equivalent record.

She also outlined her experiences at the Sydney Olympics and how she saw the future for English hockey.

Other guests of honour were Heather Lindley, President of the Worcestershire Women's Hockey Association and Pat and Laurie Colledge, representing the Midland Hockey Umpires Association.

The following awards were presented: 1st team Player of the Year: Becky Adams; Captain's Award: Jane Game; 2nd team Player of the Year: Charlotte Tysler; Captain's Award: Donna Holland; 3rd team Player of the Year: Jo Tufton; Captain's Award: Liz George; Top Goalscorer Award: Jo Walker; Hazel Stanton Trophy: Ros Howard.

Each player in the first, third, Under 19 and Under 15 teams received a certificate to commemorate the season's achievements.
