FLOODING problems at a caravan park attracted a record number of people to a recent Salford Priors parish meeting, writes Helen Clarke.

Eighty-five members of the public turned up to the meeting, many of them to express concerns about the recurring flooding at Abbots Salford Caravan Park, near to the A46.

The park is mainly used by holidaymakers - but many are there for long periods of time.

The access road dips as it enters the park and is constantly underwater, causing problems for many people.

Parish council clerk Eric Mitchell said: "This is causing great difficulties. If people are in the park and the road is flooded, it's hard to get out and the same happens when people are trying to get into the park."

Concerns have also been raised by county and district councillor Susan Juned.

Mrs Juned wrote to the county council stating that parked cars being left by residents who cannot drive into the site at night may make entry by emergency vehicles very difficult.

After queries raised by Mrs Juned, councillor Sheila Ribbons and residents, the county council investigated the problem and found that it stemmed from drainage works installed as part of the A46 construction.

The county council wrote to WSP Ltd, the contractors who maintain this section of land for the Highways Agency, but they stated the matter was outside their remit.

Mrs Juned said: "The Highways Agency has now been written to directly and the problem should now hopefully be dealt with.

"We will keep pushing this until the work is carried out."
