A JOINT meeting of the Forthampton & District Royal British Legion Branch and Women's Section was held on Monday, April 9.
K I B Yeaman Branch Chairman welcomed the members and asked F Remmer, branch president to say the exortation. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and passed.
Forthcoming events were discussed the main one being the coffee morning in Bushley Village Hall on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7 at 10.30am. There will be the usual stalls catering for everyone's tastes. "Odds & Sods", cakes, produce, vegetables, plants, competitions for children and adults and raffle, so please come along with your family and arrange to meet your friends there.
The No. 8 Gloucester County Group Service is being held at Tewkesbury Methodist Church on Sunday, May 20.
County Service applications for Pensions & Help, 408 cases were reported in March. Payments £10,396.02. Receipts £5,936.35. Do not forget this all comes out of the Poppy Appeal.
The chairman then introduced Brigadier John Montague asking him to tell the members about the Gurkhas. The speaker then explained how he had been in the Gurkhas all his military life, how the regiments had been formed and the keenness and loyalty they have shown to the Crown, from Queen Victoria's time to the present day. The region of Repal, where they live, and the type of country it is. The talk was very well received and after question and answer time the chairman thanked the Brigadier for his interesting and unusual talk.The next meeting will be held on Monday, July 9 in Forthampton Club.
