IT was chips with everything at the village hall last Saturday night and a great many of them were green.

No, it was not an organic feast, but the Revellers final toss of the dice for this season, a Casino evening. The village hall assumes many guises throughout the year, but none could be so complete a transformation as this. Tables decked in green baize, each guarded by croupiers, those wolves in evening dress with their warm inviting smiles and steel trap minds, ever ready to ensure that you move on lighter that when you arrived. The hall rippled with the rattle of dice and the clicking of the roulette wheel to the accompaniment of the "Oohs" and "Ahs" as fortunes were won, lost, and in one case, won again!

At the interval everybody enjoyed an 'ace high' supper, matching the finery of the assemblage.

By now, you who unfortunately couldn't be there, must be on the edge of your seat demanding to know the identity of the winner.

Well, as the song goes, 'Luck be a Lady tonight', and in this instance the lady was Kath Platt, a member of the illustrious Ladybirds song and dance troupe, who picked up the champagne. She amassed £7,000 from an original stake of £1,000, and, remember, she wasn't allowed to phone a friend!

The MC for the evening was of course the redoubtable Geoff Rowswell, outshone on this occasion by his multi-coloured waistcoat!

Another wonderful evening, and a fitting finale for the Revellers (who now retire to a darkened room until next season).
