THE Horticultural Society met in Christ Church during April to hear a local professional landscape gardener, Mr Stephen Large, talk about Mulches and Soil Conditioners.
He made the subject very interesting and even exciting and sent members off very enthusiastic about soil and with determination to improve the soil of their own gardens. We wait for the summer to see the magnificent results in the Wellington Heath gardens.
Some notes for the diary: On June 10 there will be a 'car visit' to Hampton Court and on Sunday, June 17 two of the gardens in the village, those of Mr & Mrs Snell, Dogberry and Mr & Mrs Evans at 'The View', Ochre Hill, will be open under the National Garden Scheme, during this event members of the Memorial Hall Committee will be serving refreshments to raise money for the new hall.
On Saturday, July 14 there will be a garden party, cheese & wine at The View, Ochre Hill, Wellington Heath, by kind invitation of David and Carolyn Evans.
This year the spring fair will be held on Saturday, May 5 on the Farmers' Arms car park by kind permission of the proprietor. The event, organised by the Memorial Hall committee will run from 9.30am to 11.30am. There will be a variety of stalls, cakes, books and toys, brick-a-brac (no jumble please!) and the Horticultural Society will be having their now famous plant stall. There will also be a raffle. Money raised will be going towards the new village hall. If anyone would like to help at this event then get in touch with Mrs Lorna Garnett (01531) 632515. I am sure she will be delighted to have your support.
