HAVING had their own celebration party last night, Worcester City are set to be guests at another one tomorrow.
They face a tough trip to Dr Martens League Premier Division leaders Margate (3pm), who could clinch the title if results go their way.
But although there will be some tired legs and sore heads in the City camp following last night's Dr Martens Cup triumph at Crawley, they have no intention of lying down as they aim to boost their prospects of finishing third.
Margate moved six points clear with a 2-0 victory at Cambridge City last night, and if they win tomorrow and nearest rivals Burton fail to do so at Dorchester, the Kent side cannot be caught.
Consequently, a bumper crowd will be expected at Hartsdown Park, but fifth-placed City are hopeful they can spoil the party.
Manager John Barton said: "The game will be interesting and it is possible we could be involved in the clinching of the championship.
"It will be nice to go and prove something again, and we could give my old club Burton a helping hand if we do well. But we want to look after our own interests first and foremost.
"It is very tight in the battle for third place. Weymouth got beaten on Tuesday which helped, but the Fisher result last week was a big blow for us.
"That could have cemented at least fourth place for us but it wasn't to be, and we have it all to do to finish our league programme off strongly in our last three games.
"Confidence and belief should be there after winning a trophy."
Skipper Carl Heeley added: "We will put the cup to bed and we have to try to get as many points as we can.
"It will be a tough game but it will be nice to judge ourselves against one of the best teams in the league. If we spoil their party, so be it.
"We have to prepare ourselves right and get our feet back on the ground."
City will be out to avoid having a league 'double' completed against them. They lost 1-0 at home back in January, when defender Mark Tucker scored an own goal in the first five minutes and City spent the rest of the match vainly trying to break down Margate's rock-solid defence.
Barton is likely to delay naming his side until tomorrow, although players like Tucker, Andy Bradley and Ian Reed could come into contention.
City's remaining league games see them travel to Crawley again next Thursday and complete their season with a trip to Havant and Waterlooville next Saturday.
