MALVERN RM 3,

RED LION FALCONS 2

MALVERN RM fully expected a hard battle this week with their local rivals Red Lion Falcons, but Red Lion must be feeling very disappointed not to get at least a point in this Worcester & District Sunday League Division Four match.

Malvern took the lead on 14 minutes through Chris Golding; they managed to hang on to their slight advantage for the rest of the first half.

Only three minutes into the second half and Red Lion were awarded a penalty, which was converted, after constant pressure in the Malvern goal mouth.

Fifteen minutes later, Malvern's Martin Davis sent off for violent conduct, Chris Davis & Mike Preece were shown yellow cards as things seemed to be going from bad to worse and Malvern's title hopes with them.

Both teams fought hard to try and get the victory with Red Lion having the best chances but on 76 minutes Malvern won a corner which allowed defender Martin Wilson to score and make amends for giving the penalty away.

Red Lion made it 2-2 only three minutes later but Malvern's Scott Senter got Malvern's winner with only six minutes left.

This victory has strengthened Malvern's grip on their title hopes, where goal difference may play a major part on winners and runners up. Malvern only have three matches left, all at home and they are now guaranteed to get at least runners up, but still firmly believe they have one hand on the title.

Malvern RM are at home to The Dovey at Lower Howsell Road, this Sunday (April 29).
