A BUSY city junction has become a potential death trap due to speeding motorists, claim concerned residents.
Fears are mounting about the junction of Bilford Road and Astwood Road, in Perdiswell, following a spate of crashes.
A two-car accident yesterday sparked fresh calls from residents for safety measures to be introduced.
One motorist was taken to Ronkswood Hospital after a Ford Escort and Vauxhall Corsa were in collision at around 12.50pm.
"One of the passengers ran off and it is not clear why although they were all later accounted for," said Fiona Harrison, from Worcester police.
She said police had responded to the concern by alerting traffic managers.
"Local residents raised the issue with us and the traffic manager will look at the road itself to see if it needs any action," said Mrs Harrison.
Rachael Griffiths, who lives in Woodland Road, near the junction, fears someone will be killed unless motorists reduce their speed.
"I saw the ambulances and police cars just outside my house and realised there had been another accident," said the mother-of-two.
"There are crashes at the junction all the time and I'm very worried not only for my children but the youngsters who go to the nearby schools.
"Cars fly round the corner from Astwood Road. I'm not exaggerating when I say that sometimes they must be travelling at around 70mph."
Her neighbour, Zelah Dickerson, heard the accident while standing in her back garden. "I realised instantly that there had been another crash," she said.
"I don't know what the answer is, but cars need to start slowing down otherwise I'm convinced there will be a fatality."
Anyone who saw the crash can contact Worcester police on 01905 723888.
