I SHARE Councillor's Clee's dismay at the unfair funding system that has disadvantaged Worcestershire for years (Evening News, April 21).
I am a governor at two schools and my experience of the effects of under-funding has been painful.
However, the political points Coun Clee is trying to make in his bid to be re-elected need challenging.
It was the Conservative government that devised the grossly unfair formula that led to a low standard spending assessment (SSA) for Worcestershire.
Worcestershire Tory MPs, from the opposition benches, are now decrying this inequity!
It was also the Tory-controlled Hereford and Worcestershire County Council that in 1991-92 set an education budget £5.4m below SSA.
The consequences of that over the past 10 years has been that children in Worcestershire have been short-changed by some £42m.
Two months ago, Coun Clee and his Tory colleagues published an education budget £1m below SSA and the overall consequences of their budget would be £4m less for education this year, compared to the LibDem/Labour budget.
I dread to contemplate the consequences for education and other local services should the Tories be re-elected.
