GLORIOUS sunshine ensured nothing would rain on the parade for Worcestershire Scouts as they celebrated St George's Day in the city.

More than 500 Scouts from across the county joined bands from the Boys' Brigade and Sea Scouts as the parade marched from Angel Place, through Broad Street and the High Street to the Cathedral.

The youngsters then returned to Angel Place via Sidbury and High Street.

During the parade the Scouts attended a ceremony at Worcester Cathedral in memory of Lord Baden Powell.

City Mayor Councillor Mary Drinkwater, who took the salute, said the day was "brilliant" and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

"There were lots of shining faces," she said.

"I have never seen so many happy children.

"It was a wonderful day with a tremendous amount of flags and it had been very well organised."

Worcester District Scout Commissioner Nigel Brooks, who joined Coun Drinkwater and the representative for the County Scout Commission, Maurice Harford, for the salute, said he was pleased with the amount of Scouts and onlookers who attended.

"It was a great day and we managed to fill the Cathedral," he said.

"This year's parade was organised by the Third Worcester Scout group who had done a brilliant job."
