Studley BKL wrestled hold of the Worcester Senior Urn from Malvern Town, with a 2-0 win in a bruising encounter at St Georges Lane last night.
In a game that had little of the flair of last season's epic against Stourport Swifts, Town were rarely allowed to get into their stride by an physical and solid Studley side.
Moving the ball forward quickly Studley shaded the opening 30 minutes thanks largely to the midfield play of Stephen Duncan and front running of Kevin Rowlands, but Raj Sharma came close to giving Town the lead when his header from Steve Walker's pin point cross was saved by Keith Beasley.
Sharma was then badly fouled and became a relative passenger for the rest of the half and with Martin Phillpotts suffering from the after-effects of a flu virus on the left, Town's attacking options were seriously reduced.
Town went behind in the 43rd minute when a corner was only half cleared and when the ball was played back into the six yard box, Rowlands escaped his marker and back-heeled the ball into the net.
Town almost responded immediately when Phil Slade broke clear and crossed, but Studley just managed to clear before Andy Shepherd could make contact.
Town changed shape at half time, substituting the injured Sharma for Matt Upton, and also pushed an extra man into midfield to try
and negate the ever-influential Duncan.
Brian Powell might twice have extended Studley's lead, but was denied by Ross Sanders and finished wastefully when put clear.
Upton looked to have equalised when he got on the end of another accurate Walker cross, but his header was well saved by Beasley.
Adam Higgins then went on a storming run but scuffed his shot
with only Beasley to beat, and Slade worked an excellent opening, but saw his left-foot drive narrowly clear the bar.
But Studley secured victory in the final minute when from another set-play Duncan finished emphatically to secure the Urn for the first time in their history.
n Pegasus Juniors went down 2-0 at Shortwood United in the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Premier Division.
n Fernhill Heath Old Boys reached the final of the Pershore Hospital Cup, beating Barnt Green Spartak 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Goals from Carl Forrester and Phil Wood enabled them to come back from 2-0 down, with Mick Quinn, Mark Blundell, Dean Tudge and Wood netting in the shoot-out.
