FARMERS are being warned not to be fooled by bogus contractors posing as MAFF employees.

Equipment has been stolen from some Worcestershire farms after so-called workmen claimed they had been sent to disinfect land as part of foot-and-mouth disease control measures.

A white transit van has been seen, but the National Farmers' Union said other vehicles may also have been used.

Farmers are advised to insist on identification, taking down names, telephone numbers and registration numbers of vehicles.

If in doubt, contact MAFF to confirm the details or contact local police.
