IN the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis League Division One last week, Lickey Monarchs had two resounding victories which virtually ensures they win the league.
In their first game against Himbleton A, their team of Eric Hardman, Roy Norton and Martin Clark won 9-1. Trevor Simmons got Himbleton's only win.
In their second game against SPSP, captain Martin Clark, worried about the result, brought in Steve Mullard. But he needn't have worried, they had an easy 10-0 win.
Newton Works B only had two players for their game with Barnt Green A but still ran out 6-4 winners. Captain Gary Jackson and Alan Hall both won their three games for Newton but lost the doubles against Mark Cornish and Danny Holdsworth 22-20, 23-21. Droitwich A drew 5-5 at home to Himbleton A. For Droitwich, Gordon Nicklin and David Arrandale both won two games with captain Don Evans getting the other. For Himbleton, Trevor Simmons and Steve Nicholls both won two games and then teamed up to win the doubles to get the draw.
In Division Two, the Studley Road Terriers team of John Dignum, Peter Hartles and Steve Gascoine were much too strong for Droitwich C, winning 10-0.
Studley Road Nomads went down 7-3 at home to Hillcrest B.
Captain Bernard Leech did best for the homesters, winning two games, Jeff Lines getting the other. For Hillcrest, Graeme Farrall was in great form winning his three games, and was well backed up by Anita Bennett with two wins and Terry Pountney with one win. Anita and Graeme then beat Bernard and Jeff in the doubles, winning 14-21, 21-15, 21-17.
Droitwich B lost 8-2 at home to Barnt Green B. Only captain Chris Harris did any good for Droitwich, getting their two wins. For Barnt Green, Steve Hope and Jason McFall were unbeaten and also won the doubles. Jim Maguire got their other win.
Lickey Panthers won 7-3 away to Newton Works C. Geoff Unitt starred for Lickey, winning his three games and his team mates John Dale and David Appleton getting two each.
For Newton, Brian Askey won two games and then teamed up with Avril Belcher to win the doubles for their three wins.
