BROMSGROVE Hockey Club's ladies made their presence felt in the annual FISSC Tournament at Stratford on Sunday.
The super squad of second and third team players came top of their group after beating Evesham, FISSC, Banbury and Chipping Campden in hard-fought matches.
Solid defending, good goalkeeping and impressive team work was the secret to town's success. Goal scorers were Janeve Fletcher (three), Kelly Evenson (two) and Lindsay Hyde (two), who ensured town's progress to the final against Shipston.
Nail-biter
The final was a nail-biting occasion with both sides awarded, but failing to score from, penalty flicks early in the first half.
With no score at the beginning of the second half, town felt they were in with an excellent chance of winning as they pressurised the opposition's defence time after time.
Unfortunately, they were unable to hold Shipston, but despite being a goal down, Bromsgrove battled to the end with several shots hitting the post or going wide by mere centimetres.
On the final whistle, time was added on when Bromsgrove were awarded a short corner, but the opposition managed to clear the ball away.
An excellent result for Bromsgrove whose committed team came away with runners-up medals.
