I AM sorry to hear Mrs W Cave finds her weekly shop an ordeal (Letters, April 25). I can understand how difficult it must be for her.
Unfortunately, I think the Kingfisher Centre managers will be unable to force supermarkets to open there unless there is enough business to attract them and obviously the elderly, disabled, young mothers and those without cars do not bring in enough business, as Tesco discovered.
The big advantage of having Debenhams, as opposed to Marks & Spencer and BHS, is that there are not so many of them. There is, for instance, one in Coventry, but none in Birmingham, therefore people will come from outside Redditch to visit a Debenhams store.
While there, they will also visit other shops and so will, we hope, help to build up the centre to what it should be, a good shopping centre which is worth visiting and where it is worth opening for business.
You may then, Mrs Cave, find one or other of the supermarkets sees it as a viable proposition to return to the Kingfisher Centre.
Please don't fight progress, be proud of your town and help it develop.
