AT least a third of the contents of the average wheelie bin could be turned into compost, claims Redditch Council as it prepares for National Composting Awareness Week.
To mark the week, cut-price compost bins and water butts will be on sale at Arrow Valley Countryside Centre on Sunday, May 20.
Townsfolk will also be able to pick up a new leaflet on how to compost at home, produced by the countryside centre's placement student, Joseph Medlicott.
Council officers are encouraging residents to take up composting to cut the county's waste mountain.
Centre manager Steve Sullivan said: "If just one in 10 households in the borough composted at home, then nearly 1,000 tonnes of rubbish would be saved from being buried at the landfill site in Pershore."
Compost bins can be bought anytime from the centre shop between 10am-5pm.
