A BRAVE Redditch teacher has reached a major sponsorship milestone after deciding to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Whiz Kids.

Robert Young, from Walkwood Middle School, reached the £5,000 mark last week after a £500 donation from Howard Yarnold Window Systems.

He will climb the highest peak in Africa for Whiz Kids with 23 other brave people and they will meet next month in the Lake District for some training.

Mr Young said: "Everyone has helped me get the money, all my old university friends helped out going around with buckets, as well as all the parents of the schoolchildren donating money."

Training has been top of the agenda for Mr Young because the date with the 5,895-metre Tanzanian giant on July 22 draws ever closer.

A spokesman for Howard Yarnold Window Systems said: "It's a worthwhile cause to help the Whiz Kids charity."
