A STUDLEY teenager has been chosen as this year's Astwood Bank carnival queen.
Kate Bewley will be officially crowned at a 1940s night at Ridgeway Middle School, Evesham Road, on May 18.
The 17 year old was selected by a small panel of judges, who are all members of the carnival committee, in April.
She is studying to become a speech therapist at Bromsgrove College and enjoys dancing, trampolining and going out with friends.
Carnival publicity officer Graeme Jones said: "This year, there were more entrants than for many a year and the decision as to who should be crowned queen, based on personality and looks, was very difficult.
"Kate was chosen because of her natural charm and enthusiasm."
Meanwhile, a comedy night will kick start the Astwood Bank carnival weekend in September, it was decided at a committee meeting last week.
The carnival has been postponed due to the foot and mouth outbreak, which has affected farms in the area.
The event, which will be held for the first time, takes place on September 20 and will feature popular local comedians and music.
It was also decided the announcement of the charity awards will be held on November 14.
But the carnival fun is to begin on Thursday, May 17, with a race night at the Oddfellows Arms, Foregate Street, Astwood Bank, from 8.30pm, and admission is free.
A 1940s evening presented by Astwood Bank Operatic Society is on Friday, May 18, at Ridgeway Middle School, Evesham Road from 8pm.
Tickets cost £3.50 and are available from Pete the Meat.
