Arabie takes time off from helping with Curtain Time's preparation for the Vodafone Derby to boost his own racecourse career at Brighton tomorrow.

And Henry Cecil's charge can show he is a fair performer in his own right by opening his account in the Ladbrokes Sussex Supreme Maiden Stakes.

Arabie is used to Curtain Time's company for they made there one and only racecourse appearance to date together at Newmarket's Craven meeting two weeks ago.

Curtain Time ran out a comfortable two-and-a-half length winner to earn a 16-1 quote with Ladbrokes for the premier Classic.

The market had told a different story as Arabie was stable jockey Richard Quinn's choice and started 7-2 second favourite while Willie Ryan took the mount on 8-1 chance Curtain Time

Arabie did not shape too badly, finishing eighth of the 20 runners, beaten 13-lengths by the winner. He looked to need the race more than most and can show the benefit of that run by winning this modest event.

Japan can make a successful turf debut in the Congratulations Mandie Yallop Classified Stakes after showing progressive form on Southwell's all-weather surface.

Paul Cole's colt impeccably-bred colt, by Caerleon out of Culture Vulture, got off the mark at the third attempt this year when beating Ramzain by two and a half lengths.

He looks to be still on the upgrade as he was unraced as a juvenile and can go on to better things.

Lancer, fourth to runaway winner Needwood Mystic in a lady riders' race over a mile and a half here three weeks ago, can strike for Newmarket trainer Lydia Pearce in his division of the Zurich London Handicap.

Mrs Pearce was in the saddle that day but is giving way to a professional this time.

Bergen was only beaten a length by Miss Flirtatious over six furlongs at Southwell two weeks ago and will appreciate the extra furlong in the Manny Bernstein Bookmakers Freephone 0800 821 821 Selling Stakes at Redcar.

With David Nicholls's horses starting to run into form after a slow start to the season, the six-year-old gelding is up to winning in this lowly company.

Susie's Flyer can defy top weight for Alan Berry in the Manny Bernstein Bookmakers Credit Division Fillies' Handicap.

The Cockerham trainer can also strike with another sprint filly, Columbine, in the 107.7 The Wolf Fillies' Handicap on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

Columbine made a winning debut at Doncaster last July and was a respectable third in both her subsequent starts.

She was beaten 12 lengths when third to Danehurst over five furlongs here on her final outing as a two-year-old, but that form is not bad at all considering the winner went on to lift the Group Three Cornwallis Stakes at Newbury just three weeks later.
