Droitwich 43
Hereford A 19
DROITWICH produced a fine performance to beat Hereford A at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground on Saturday.
The Spa side chose to introduce some young and fringe players into the starting line up, notably full-back Ben Cottrell, flanker Peter Healy and 17-year-old's Ian Kilner and Steve Poke.
From the start Droitwich employed the running handling style that has brought them so much success this season. Good breaks by Neil Evans and Sascha Hobbs went unrewarded, but put the opposition on the back foot.
Good forward work by Paul Bowditch saw the ball go down the three quarter, Cottrell came into the line and sold a superb dummy to score under the posts.
Shortly afterwards, a searing break by Neil Evans put Nick King in to score. After a strong forward drive prop Will Kurton went over in the corner. Matt Blackmore converted all three tries as well as a penalty.
Just before half time a long clearance by Cottrell was not dealt with by the Hereford defence. Cottrell chased energetically to score a well deserved second and cap a fine performance by the 22-year-old.
Droitwich kept up the pressure in the second half and a ball spun wide saw second row Rob Bray loitering on the wing to score. Just before the end captain Nick Godfrey got a well deserved touch down.
Spa will be pleased with a fine end of season performance.
