FORMULA Ford hopeful Stefan Hodgetts endured another grim weekend in the Zetec Championship at Donington.

The Headless Cross teenager failed to finish for the second time in the opening three rounds after a disappointing time in qualifying.

Hodgetts was in fifth despite gearbox problems and heading for his first top six finish when he was hit from behind on the final lap and forced out with rear suspension damage.

"We were only twelfth in qualifying on wets because it was tipping it down," said the 18-year-old.

"Something went in the gearbox on the rolling lap before the start and the car was making strange noises in the race.

"But I managed to get up to fifth before I was hit from behind."

Hodgetts is back in action in the fourth round at Oulton Park on the Bank Holiday weekend and Hodgetts, who has just signed a two year contract with his Sweeney Hopper Racing team, remained optimistic.

"We have lacked a bit of horsepower but will try a different engine at the weekend.

"We have been the fastest in previous races at Oulton Park and it would be the perfect place for it all to gel together.

"After the start I have had, a top six finish would be welcome but I really want to get on the podium and get my season started."

Hodgetts is testing on Saturday, qualifying on Sunday and competes on Bank Holiday Monday.
