THE new headteacher of a Hollywood school received a warm welcome from teachers and pupils after she was appointed last week, writes Matt Smith.
Melanie Warnes was welcomed as new headteacher at Woodrush High School last Monday.
Ms Warnes, previously deputy headteacher of Dene Magna School in Gloucestershire, takes the position from Sue Kirkham, who has now moved to a high school in Staffordshire.
Ms Warnes said: "This is the most exciting job I've ever had. Children only get one chance at education and my mission is to make that experience absolutely successful for them.
"Woodrush is already a successful and popular school and I will build on that to make the school a centre of excellence for all its students.
"Education has made a great difference to my life and I want the students at Woodrush to experience the same excitement and success."
Ms Warnes has also taught in schools in London, Bristol and two in Gloucestershire before taking on her role at Woodrush and also travelled through Africa, Australia, America and India.
Her last school in Gloucestershire has recently been given top marks by Ofsted and was praised for successful leadership and very good pupil behaviour.
Ms Warnes said: "My experience has given me exactly the preparation I need for leading Woodrush into a bright future.
"The school is a vital part of its community. Woodrush children deserve the best and, in partnership with the school's parents, I will lead my colleagues in ensuring the maximum opportunity for all our students."
