DROITWICH Dolphins' young swimmers were in commanding form at Stetchford in the first round of the prestigious Nuneaton League for under-12's.
Full credit goes to the girls' team, who were seriously depleted as a result of a number of conflicting local events.
Between them they covered all the 21 girls races: Lydia Williams, Danielle Morrison, Alexis Collier, Amelia Lui, Fiona Watt, Charlotte Earl and Hayley Williams. Both teams relied on swimmers to compete against older age groups.
Early wins were chalked up by Alexis Collier in the ten years freestyle, Hayley Williams in the the 12 years backstroke and the boys' 11 years medlay team of Sam Sower, James Hegan-Smith, Johnathan Todd and Ewan McGuiness.
Amelia Liu and Ben Bower both swam to easy victories in their respective ten years backstroke races and Hayley Williams stormed home to win the 12 years freestyle race.
In the 11 years age group, James Hegan-Smith had an excellent freestyle win, as did the girls freestyle team of Lydia Williams, Alexis Collier, Amelia Lui and Fiona Watt.
Both the boys and girls relay teams were succesful. The boys medlay team of Sam Bower, Sam Fowles, Johnathan Todd and Simon Roberts all swam outstandingly to enjoy a clear victory.
The girls freestyle team of Amelia Lui, Fiona Watt, Charlotte Earl and Hayley Williams won by a convincing margin,
Other team members who between them came second in 13 other events included Austen Lui, Cairon McGinty, Ross McGuiness, Nicholas Rimmington and Danielle Morrison.
The final event of the evening, the eight lengths freestyle cannon, was also the last win of the night for Droitwich Dolphins, giving them overall victory. It was a fitting end and no doubt delighted new director of coaching, Brian McGuiness.
Personal bests
At the recent Worcestershire County Championships, all the Droitwich Dolphins swimmers competing achieved personal best times.
Notable swims were recorded by Simon Roberts, Hayley Williams and Kate Walker in the 50m butterfly, Alexandra Dunn in the 50m breaststroke, Charles Fisher and Sam Fowles in the 50m backstroke and Charlotte Earl in the freestyle.
Individual placings were achieved by Hayley Williams who finished second in both the 50m and 100m backstroke in the 11/12 age group. Alexandra Dunn finished fifth overall in the 13 years and under age group in both the 50m backstroke and freestyle.
The girls 13/14 relay team of Rachel Roberts, Natalie Clifford, Alexandra Dunn and Alice Richardson made the final of the freestyle event, beating much larger clubs.
To round off the individual placings, ladies captain Claire Holliday came sixth in the 400m individual medlay event.
