WOMEN are being warned to avoid walking alone late at night after a man tried to drag a woman towards an area of trees in Greenlands.
Redditch police are investigating the incident which happened in Wishaw Close at about 11.25pm on Sunday, April 22.
A 20-year-old woman was walking back to her home alone but as she walked past a car park at the far end of Wishaw Close, she was suddenly grabbed from behind.
A white man grabbed the woman and attempted to drag her towards an area of trees by the car park.
But police said the woman struggled and put up resistance before the man grabbed her around her waist.
The woman kicked out at the man, who then released his grasp so she was able to run off in the direction of her home. She did not see where the man went.
As a result of the attack, the woman's upper body clothing was ripped and she was very shaken but not physically injured.
Pc Chris Aslett, of Redditch police, said: "This was a very frightening experience for the woman who was alone in a darkened street. She put up a determined resistance and was able to break away from the man's grasp."
There is no description of the attacker because the area was darkened and deserted at the time.
Sgt Andy Chinn added: "We would warn all people, especially women, to be careful and consider their routes, stay in lit areas and try to avoid walking alone late at night."
