NO assaults or incidents have happened on Redditch buses since the launch of a police operation, it has been revealed.
Uniformed and undercover police officers began travelling on the buses to stamp out assaults on drivers and instill confidence in passengers.
The move came after a spate of attacks on First Midland Red drivers, leaving them fearing for their safety and passengers frightened of travelling.
Insp Gareth Prosser, of Redditch police, said: "It has been really good and we have had some encouraging comments from drivers and members of the public in relation to seeing officers on the buses.
"And since we started it we have not had any incidents."
Sgt Gary Watson, of Redditch central sector, said: "It's pleasing that our activities have curtailed the problem being experienced by the bus company.
"I have travelled on the buses myself and was pleased by the positive responses."
Commercial manager for First Midland Red, Austin Birks, expressed cautious optimism on the early positive responses which had been recorded.
He said: "The staff at First Midland Red are appreciative of the high profile approach that has been displayed by the police.
"We are optimistic that it will lead to the basis of a good working relationship between officers and staff.
"Public responses have also been positive and have expressed support."
