IN their last games of the season, Bromsgrove U11s started the Stratford Tournament in convincing style. Excellent play from the backs and good support from the forwards gave them a 25-0 win against Shipton. In the second game with Stratford it was the forwards' turn to demonstrate their strength in a much changed team. A 10-10 draw meant a semi-final place against Nuneaton. Bromsgrove struggled to cope with Nuneaton's all round strength and lost by 15-0. The play off for third place was a repeat game against Stratford. This time Bromsgrove got the better of their hosts with a good all round performance, winning 10-0. Try scorers were Ashley Binner (three), Jason Harvey (two), Joshua Audley (two), George Russell and Paul Fitzer.

On Sunday, Bromsgrove U12s travelled to Stratford to take part in a tournament involving teams from around the Midlands and two from Yorkshire. Game by game Town's results were: Yarnbury -- Town started well and kept up a tremendous pace throughout to win 35-0. Sandal were then beaten 15-0. Malvern -- local rivals and town's worst performance of the day. A lethargic start to the game but with a better second half and a win by 10-0. Nuneaton -- both teams were unbeaten at the start of the game. Twice town crossed the line but a poorly positioned referee could not be sure and failed to award the score. Once Bromsgrove scored, Nuneaton put the Town defence under pressure but could not break through, Bromsgrove winning 5-0. Stratford -- one of Bromsgrove's bogey teams but a controlled performance and aggressive defence resulted in a win 10-0. Harbury -- needing to win the final game the team gave a good performance, winning 15-0. Undefeated in six games, 18 tries scored and none conceded meant that Bromsgrove won the tournament. The statistics make good reading but even more pleasing was the high quality of town's performance. Tournament squad and scorers: Matthew Newman (three), Chris Dearden, Jon Cadman, Tom Hinks, Matthew Edgar (four), Freddie Cowen, Gareth Reusser, Simon Roberts (one), George Crook (one), Scott Morris, Ben Raybould, Sam Schofield (four), Ashley Pogson, Matthew Newell (four), Tom Cole, Will Gormley. Despite the disruptions caused by the weather, this season has been another successful one for this age group.

Bromsgrove U13s 10 Worcester U13s 29. Bromsgrove completed their season of fixtures with a keenly contested game with local adversaries Worcester. On this occasion Bromsgrove were beaten by the better team on the day. The friendly rivalry between these teams goes back a number of years and Bromsgrove were delighted to be invited to play in the curtain raiser game as part of Worcester's President's day. Worcester started with strong running in the centre, which exploited some defensive frailties in Bromsgrove's backs. Worcester were able to score three tries and convert two before Bromsgrove were able to respond. The first Bromsgrove try came with a well taken try from Kyle Everton, making the half time score 19-5. In the second half Bromsgrove closed the deficit when Richard Lee crossed over as a result of an improvement in Bromsgrove's play. The revival ended there as Worcester raised the pace of the game and scored two more tries.

Bromsgrove U14s 19 Walsall U14s 5. Bromsgrove were quickly into their stride and, being two yards quicker than Walsall in their support play, gained a regular supply of possession. Good handling throughout led to well taken tries from Ashley Taylor and Sam Parrish (two) with a conversion each for James Upton and Martyn Hubbleday. Rearrangements to the home side led to an early second half try for Walsall but Bromsgrove stuck to their strengths and thereafter pressed strongly. Sadly, a series of niggling incidents got to the players and the game was abruptly called to a halt following a mass brawl. Not the way John Chiverrell, in his last game as coach to the side would have wished the season to end. Better to reflect on the outstanding play in a record played 20, won 18, lost 2 -- one of these to Moseley in the cup -- points for: 550, points against: 107.
